The openNet-SRV project is an open source effort to develop infrastructure services for next generation automated, networked software components - combining Agent, Semantic Web and Web Services technologies. The development software is a collaborative effort between a number of research and demonstration projects contributing to the openNet testbed.

New packages NOW AVAILABLE from 10.10.04!

IMPORTANT: When connecting to the openNet Network you must use the MTP package provided with this release. Using the Jade bundles MTPs may result in your platform crashing uncontrollably.

For project progress please see the sourceforge project page.

Support

The openNet-SRV project is currently being supported by the following research activities and organisations:
With help in testing and deployment from a number of other organisations. See the sourceforge page for individual developers.

Functionality

The functionality targeted by the open source effort is precisely that defined in the main technology recommendations produced for the infrastructure level of the
openNet testbed. Concretely the current scope includes:
  • Agent/Service Platform Directory Services
  • Agent Directories
  • Service Directories
  • Agent/Service Platform Monitoring Services
The systems are implemented in Java as Agents or other systems compatible with one or more Agent Platform Environments compatible with openNet. The initial set of implementations covers only the JADE agent platform (all infrastructure agents are Jade agent), however the projects hopes to expand to support a range of other FIPA compliant and Web Services / Semantic Web platforms.

Detailed descriptions of functionality can be found with the individual packages and in the openNet documentation. However in essence the tools provided here:

  • Allow you to connect a new platform to the openNet network - making it visible to others
  • Monitor your platform's status and its ability to communicate with others
  • Deploy your own naming, directory and monitoring services as you need - even set up your own seperate network.
  • Once connected you can deploy agents and services on your platform which can interact with those deployed by others using standard agent languages and Semantic Web ontologies.

openNet Testbed

The software developed here is intended for use in the
openNet experimental testbed - a infrastructure designed to enable research projects working in the areas of Agent technology, Semantic Web, Web Services to share infrastructure development and deploy demonstrations and applications in a global testbed.
